【解説】洋楽がオリジナルで日本でカバーされてヒットする曲。１９８４年に小林麻美でヒットした「雨音はショパンの調べ」がそうだ。オリジナルはイタリアの歌手がガゼボ(Gazebo) で「I LIKE ＣHOPＩN」だった。イタリア、ドイツでチャートはにぎわせたが、全英、全米ではダメだった。いかにも日本人受けするセンチメンタルなメロディーである。日本語バージョンの訳詞はユーミンだそうだが、日本版タイトルを「アイ・ライク・ショパン」から「雨音はショパンの調べ」のしたセンスはすごい。
【解説】 ブレッドはウェスト・コーストでもなく、ＳＳＷでもなくＡＯＲでもなく、昔はソフト・ロックというジャンルで呼ばれていたっけ。デビッド・ゲイツの数ある楽曲の中でも、最もセンチメンタルなメロディーを有する。１９７２年ビルボード１５位。 さて歌詞は難解である、韻（下線部分）を多用しているため、意味の成さないフレーズが多い。歌詞の中に「rhyme it doesn’t mean a thing.,（韻など意味のないものだ）」とありながらである。要はオーブレーという女の子に一目惚れをしてしまった男の子の話である。 オーブレーは男性名なのでnot ordinaryなのか？それとも宗教的な意味合いがあるのか？
